Hair changes can feel unsettling, and the internet rarely helps. Our free consultation gives you time with someone who looks at your scalp properly, listens to what's changed, and helps you work out a sensible next step. Every GYO plan starts here, and there's no charge and no obligation.
Who it's for
Book a consultation if you:
- are noticing more shedding, a wider parting or thinner lengths
- have seen your hair change after stress, illness, a baby, the menopause or a big change in diet or weight
- have a scalp that feels itchy, flaky, oily or just not right
- are curious about treatments like microneedling with exosomes or a head spa but want advice before you book
You don't need to know what's causing it. Working that out together is the point.
What happens
- A free video assessment. Before your in-salon consultation, we start with a video call so we can hear what's been happening, see your hair and make sure a visit is the right next step. Everyone has this first.
- Your in-salon consultation. You visit us in Fitzrovia for a longer appointment. We look closely at your scalp with a scalp analysis, which is included free as part of the consultation.
- Inside Out, Roots and Ends. We think about your hair in three parts: what's going on inside your body, the health of your scalp and roots, and protecting the lengths you're growing.
- A DNA hair test, where it may help. We may suggest our in-salon DNA hair test. If your results suggest a personalised prescription could help, we can refer you to a UK compounding pharmacy. GYO doesn't prescribe.
- Your plan. You leave with suggestions that fit you: perhaps a salon treatment, a home routine, supplements, or simply a "let's wait and see". There's no pressure to book anything on the day.
DNA hair test
Our DNA hair test (Fagron TrichoTest) is a simple cheek swab taken in the salon and sent to a specialist lab. It looks at 13 genes and 48 genetic variations linked to hair thinning and to how you may respond to different treatments. It doesn't diagnose hair loss on its own, but your report shows which treatments are likely to suit you. It costs £249.
Please don't eat, smoke, or drink anything other than water (so no alcohol or caffeine) for an hour before your swab.
Personalised prescriptions
GYO doesn't prescribe. If your DNA results suggest a personalised prescription could help, we can refer you to a UK compounding pharmacy. Their own prescriber decides whether a treatment is suitable for you, and the pharmacy supplies it to you directly.

Results and timeline
A consultation won't change your hair on its own, and we won't pretend otherwise. What it gives you is clarity: a better idea of what may be behind the change, and a plan you understand. Hair grows slowly, so most plans are measured in months. We'd much rather set honest expectations at the start than promise something no one can guarantee.

Is the hair loss consultation really free?
Yes. The video assessment, the in-salon consultation and the scalp analysis are all free, and so is a referral to our pharmacy partner. You're under no obligation to book a treatment afterwards.
How does the consultation work?
It's in two parts. First a video assessment, which everyone has before visiting, then your in-salon consultation with a scalp analysis.
Do I need to know what's causing my hair loss?
Not at all. Most people come to us because they don't know. We'll talk through your history and look at your scalp, and help you work out what may be playing a part.
